Everything's Coming Up Albers, 2012

Works by very famous artists were given the "Albers" treatment in photoshop. Through masking them in an "Homage to the Square" motif and then averaging the colors in each band, the art is encrypted into a highly simplified composition. The "Average" blur filter creates a color based on the average of all selected colors. This means that all paintings tend towards the middle and a sort of peaceful decorative quality when treated this way. The images are printed onto a piece of aluminum and coated with a high gloss protective coating. This cold and hermetic presentation reinforces the detachment inherent in the process.
