This absurdist poem was a commission for San Diego International Airport’s exhibition, Figure of Speech. To create the piece, I walked the grounds of the airport capturing images of all the signs of interest. I then crafted a poem from phrases found within, which played on the directive and reassuring language of the site. The culminating poem strikes a balance between authoritarian and quasi-spiritual. Raised letters scattered amongst the vinyl letters reveal a final line of the poem to those who find themselves staring at it while waiting for their delayed flight at Gate 24 in Terminal 2.
